Abstracted Architecture in Watercolour – A live ONLINE demonstration with Sterling Edwards, CSPWC
Be inspired by this demonstration of an exciting approach to painting architecture by Sterling Edwards, CSPWC. Sterling will share his unique and expressive style of painting. Learn how he designs his paintings with expressive colours and strong shifts of value to create a sense of movement. Watch him overlap positive and negative shapes to suggest depth, dimension and drama.
Sterling describes his demonstration:
“I intend to show a wide variety of watercolor techniques including negative painting, glazing, using unusual color mixes, overlapping shapes, expressive brushwork using large stiff bristle brushes and more. In addition I will explain and demonstrate how to create a strong composition and distort shapes to create movement and depth. The end result is to paint a colourful and stylized painting of buildings that is a unique and eye-catching piece of art.”
Are you wondering “What is a stylized painting?”
Put simply it is a painting of something that is easily recognizable but has an abstract element. Unlike abstract expressionism, which is non-objective art, a stylized painting is both an abstract and a representational painting combined into one piece of art.
In Sterling’s words “It’s an abstract painting that I can hang my hat on”.
Sterling Edwards is world renowned for his expressive and thought provoking stylized watercolor paintings. He often refers to his stylized pieces as his signature style of painting. It allows him the freedom to create something that is unique and interpretive. His paintings bridge the gap between traditional design and something more contemplative with a slight abstraction. Each painting is a somewhat spontaneous venture that is designed to entertain the viewers’ imaginations and show them something that they would never see without being shown by the artist.
Let this demonstration help you get into the flow of expressive watercolour painting and put some pizzazz in your work.
